The Collective Management Organisation of Pakistan (COMP) recently participated in the Tokyo Program on the WIPO Mentoring Project for Managers of Copyright Management Organisations, held from February 9 to 11, 2026, in Tokyo, Japan.
Organised by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in cooperation with the Japan Copyright Office, the program brought together representatives from five countries Bangladesh, Pakistan, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan to share progress, exchange expertise, and strengthen the development of local collective management organisations (CMOs).
The three-day program featured a series of workshops, progress presentations, and technical sessions focused on governance, transparency, licensing practices, and data management. COMP presented Pakistan’s progress in developing its CMO framework, engaging with regional peers and international experts to enhance operational standards and documentation practices.
Key sessions were conducted in collaboration with CISAC, the global network representing authors’ societies worldwide. CISAC contributed expertise on governance and best practices, supporting the program’s goal of aligning emerging CMOs with international standards.
WIPO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, plays a central role in promoting the protection of intellectual property across the globe through cooperation, capacity building, and policy development. Through initiatives like this mentorship program, WIPO continues to support the growth of transparent and efficient CMOs in developing markets.
COMP’s participation in the Tokyo program marks an important step in its ongoing efforts to strengthen copyright management infrastructure in Pakistan, with continued support from WIPO and CISAC under this mentorship initiative.
